What is Traditional Witchcraft?

When spoken of traditional, we find it synonymous to old, cultural, boring, or historical but traditional as an adjective to witchcraft means the basic. Traditional witchcraft is the core of all the other witchcraft. It is the inspiration to all like of the Alexandrian and Gardnerian. Some historians may believe otherwise. Witchcraft is a religion and a way of life. It is the extraordinary relationship of witches to nature stripped of external views on morals and ethics.

Witchcraft started as a way to live and so traditional witchcraft involves that. It involves balance.

Witches respect others while expecting others to be respected in return. It is the equal trade that traditional witches value. But traditional witchcraft also believes that everything is a personal choice and whatever decision one make will have their consequences. Reincarnation as we call it today was also believed during that time but in a different perspective. Traditional witchcraft calls it rebirth and it is the belief that every soul passes a cycle that brings it to different forms and conditions in life. It may be an animal or a totally different person. Some may call it shape-shifting which is a mythical activity. Depending on how one lives his life he may will go to the Underworld and find his fate waiting for him. Witches believed in maintaining the balance and so whatever is done today has a great correlation to the things that can happen tomorrow.

Traditional witches consider the lands their god. It was the one that provides and sustains life.

During this time, witchcraft connects with nature and other beings and this in turn form a strong bond. Traditional witchcraft is not stained by other religious views thus making Mother Nature their religion and the farming land as their sanctuary. For them, what they know is enough to live their lives. Their ways also involve constant communication with another world and being. Some may call it hidden realities for the ordinary cannot see it. Witches do it in a very intimate level, so close that whatever things learned are transported back to the living. Witches’ ability allows them to not lose consciousness as they travel to another realm. This contact and communication with nature and other beings provide the witches with the knowledge and power to perform their witchcraft.

Defining traditional witchcraft may have been a cause for discussion but it can be called as the origin for a start. This kind of witchcraft has no external influence. This kind of witchcraft is between nature and humans alone. Some may argue that there are some special techniques or spells that only traditional witchcraft can do. This may be true at some point but everything should come from something and for witchcraft that is the now called traditional. Many still practice the core of witchcraft but it cannot be authentic for everyone today one way or another had an influence by another religious beliefs. What is traditional and what is not are just classifications of something great and helpful in making sure that all the things in the living are in sync.
