History of Witchcraft

Witchcraft started to be a respected art before it was connected with the evil. During the ancient times, no one can cure or even just explain epidemic.

There were no doctors or laboratories to test blood or answer questions. But with the natural instinct of humans to survive, they were able to discover the power of herbs and potions thus the birth of witchcraft. The women who practiced witchcraft began gaining supporters because they were able to successfully deliver a child, lift away pains, and cure illnesses.

In the beginning, it is common for the mothers or women of the house to be the one who learn the art of witchcraft. Everyone believed that it was the proper thing to do because women are the creator of life. They are the ones who have the capability to give birth. Aside from this, there is also the practical reason. Since men are the ones who go out of the house to find food and the women are the ones who stay at home to look after their family. The women became master of witchcraft. They were able to practice and hone their skills to help their community.

This of course raised many skeptics especially the church. They firmly believed that no one should have the power to heal but the men of the church. And without enough understanding, they think that all illnesses serve as punishment and should not be meddled with. They also think that with the power of witches to heal comes the power to cause epidemic. Because of the lack of knowledge to explain such epidemic, the oddness of it is pointed to those who practice magic.

The accusations and hard allegations against the practice of Witchcraft have been the start of its Dark Days. Everyone that is suspected of becoming a witch or even just possessing herbs and potions were persecuted without trial. Because of this, many of the practitioners of witchcraft grew silent for the fear of death. The knowledge and craft that are passed through generations have come to a halt. This has become the situation for many years until the fear subsided. Those who still firmly believed witchcraft picked up the pieces and tried to bring back the lost glory. It was hard since the legacy has stopped but the determination and belief helped them learn the craft again.

Witches are not what the Christians thought them to be. Witchcraft history will tell us so much about their humble beginnings. One thing is that the purpose of witchcraft is not to harm but rather to provide. Witchcraft is a nature-based religion that gives utmost respect and gratitude to Mother Nature that provides food, shelter, medicine, and life. It may be hard for some to really fathom the hows of witchcraft but fortunately today, most are explainable by science. There is no need to point odd events to the witches who want nothing but to regain balance between all the beings here on earth.
