Defining A Witch

Growing up, most of us picture a witch as an ugly old lady with a flying broom and cone-shaped hat. This do not justify who witches really are. Always, witches are related to evil and dark magic. They are the people to go to when someone wants to hurt another.

These misconceptions have greatly influenced how everyone else thinks. Being unable to explain by science may be one of the main reasons why witchcraft is considered as such.
Witches in ancient times are believed to cause epidemics. This is because of the lack of knowledge of ancient people for what causes what. Fortunately today with the development of science and medicines, not everything is blamed to witches for they do not deserve such allegations. Witches are servants of nature. They work their magick within the natures’ permission. For witches, their craft is a religion. It is their way to be as one with Mother Nature. Witchcraft in ancient times is like the humans’ way to say gratitude to Mother Nature for giving them everything that they need.

In ancient time, witchcraft is all about agriculture and healing. They celebrate different feasts and do rituals to give gratitude for a good harvest. Witchcraft is their way to give Mother Nature something in return. It is also a way to prepare for the cold days. During this time also, witches play a major role in assuring that all illnesses are healed and that those who are in pain are lifted away from it. Witches are healers that are respected. This may be also the reason why witches respect Mother Nature so much for not only food that it provides but medicines as well.

Being a witch is passed through generations. They say that people are born with a witch’s blood but more than genetics, witchcraft is an acquired skill. People who want to be a witch dedicate their life to learn such intricate craft. This has been the way for many generations until the time when Christianity advocated against witches. They have influenced non-witches that witchcraft is nothing but pure evil. They also imposed fear to everyone for anyone who is suspected to be witch, innocent or not is persecuted. The fear of death stopped the practice of witchcraft for some time. But maybe because Mother Nature never really died and so is witchcraft. The passing of knowledge may have been put into halt but the knowledge is still there just waiting to be ignited.

Today, there are still many witches out there who means nothing but good. They are accepted now for science can explain almost anything and nothing of this can be pointed to witches. Witches are another group of people. Like any other religion, their beliefs should be respected for they only do what they believe nature wants them to do. Witches are those who want nothing but to regain and maintain the balance between nature and those living in it. For them, any form of magick given to them is for Mother Nature’s wishes of good.
